Preventing And Remedying Nausea During Pregnancy

Hydration Strategies

Now that you are eating for two, it is also important to remember that you are drinking for two. If you are experiencing nausea while you are pregnant, you must replace lost fluids as soon as possible, even though you might not feel up to it. Try a few of these tactics for keeping yourself hydrated while pregnant, and watch your nausea symptoms melt away.

* Herbal Tea – steep a small piece of fresh ginger or a handful of fresh mint in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes; add a little honey if you like and drink slowly after meals to settle your stomach

* Sip Slowly – try to consume small amounts of room temperature liquids a little at a time if you are suffering morning sickness

* Replace Electrolytes – mix 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice with 1/4 teaspoon sea salt and 1 tablespoon honey with a cup of water twice per day to restore depleted fluids and minerals

A very serious condition called hyperemesis gravidarum can develop during pregnancy, where fluid and mineral imbalances can develop, endangering both the life of the mother and that of her unborn child. Keep track of your symptoms and seek medical attention if you are suffering from severe nausea.

Even though it may be an unfortunate side-effect of being pregnant, taking a few steps to reduce nausea will be a small inconvenience once you have a baby to care for. Savor your food and take time for digestion now – it may be your last chance after all.
