Using Herbs As A Natural Remedy For Constipation


Herbal Jam Recipe for Relieving Constipation

Following is a recipe which you can make at home that employs dandelion root, senna, and dried fruits. All prevent and relieve constipation. This is a creative way to use herbs.

Many laxative herbs are bitter. Their taste can be disguised by combining them into a fruit paste which is similar to jam. Use it just like jam. Simply spread a tablespoonful on whole grain toast each morning.

This recipe is used by home health nurses to provide relief of constipation to people recuperating from illness, elders, and for anyone who want a tasty way to relieve occasional constipation. Senna is a potent laxative. You may increase or decrease the amount of senna as desired. The dried fruits are classic treatments to relieve constipation. Use whatever dried fruits that you have on hand. This jam freezes well. Enjoy!


Go Jam

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups water
1 oz dandelion root
3 oz senna herb
1 lb dried prunes, finely chopped
1 lb dried apricots, finely chopped
1 lb raisins, finely chopped
1 cup molasses
1 cup lemon juice

Directions

Combine the water, dandelion, and senna in a saucepan. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat. Strain out the herbs. Combine the herb tea and dried fruits in the sauce pan. Simmer for five minutes. Stir frequently. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the molasses and lemon juice. Pour into storage containers.
