Effective Natural Remedies For Yeast Infection In Women

Lactobacilli Vaginal Suppositories

Vaginal suppositories that contain lactobacilli are available in most health-food stores, or you can make your own, using acidophilus powder and empty gelatin capsules. Use a vaginal suppository or capsule once or twice daily for one to three weeks.

Vinegar Sitz Bath

Add 1-2 cups of apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of salt to a shallow bath of warm water. The vinegar helps to support a normal acidic balance, while the salt disinfects. Take a 10-minute bath daily until symptoms disappear or to prevent the recurrence of infection.

Nutrition

It is important to boost your natural immunity while fighting any kind of infection. Proper nutrition can give your immune system the essential building blocks it needs to keep the balance of good and bad micro-organisms in your body.

* Zinc – 50mg daily to boost immune function
* Vitamin B complex – 50mg of each major B vitamin to resist infection (choose a yeast free formula)
* Acidophilus – use as directed to balance intestinal flora responsible for fighting infection
* Garlic – 3 capsules twice daily
* Vitamin C – 1000mg daily to build up immunity and protect tissues
* Calcium – 750mg twice daily; this is often deficient in people with this type of infection

In cases of recurrent yeast infections, sexual partners should be tested for infection, as well. If your partner tests positive, it’s important to use condoms until all sign of infection disappear to prevent passing the infection back and forth. A medical checkup is essential to rule out bacterial infections such as syphilis and gonorrhea.

To prevent infection, keep the vaginal area clean and dry. Wear loose fitting cotton clothing and all-cotton underwear to allow free circulation of air. Do not wear all-nylon pantyhose. Launder your clothing in unscented detergent and avoid using any fabric softeners. Avoid contact with potentially irritating chemicals, such as those used in scented toilet paper, tampons and sanitary napkins, deodorants and hygiene sprays.

Every woman will likely experience an imbalance of vaginal flora at some time in her life. Finding the right combination of hygiene and occasional treatments can keep those nasty micro-organisms in check, leaving you with one less female issue to worry about.
