Fasting And Weight Loss – Does It Work And Is It Good?

Because excessive weight is associated with many health issues, fasting and weight loss present a potentially dangerous combination in the sense that fasting may lead to a number of issues and / or complications. Even seemingly “minor” health circumstances, such as being on a daily medication, will be negatively affected by fasting.

Fasting is not the best way to approach weight loss for most people, but for those who insist on approaching weight loss this way, it may be appropriate to do a short fasting cleanse at the beginning of one’s weight loss, or when weight loss “plateaus” occur. Of course, those who choose to do this should be certain they are not at risk of binging or health complications.

It is important to remember that despite what our culture and the media may sell – that there is a “quick fix” for weight issues – there is no magic way to lose weight, and though fasting may seem “magic” because of its marked effects on weight, its negative effects on health and the fact that weight lost is not true fat make it a less than desirable approach to weight loss.

The best way to lose weight is to acknowledge the truths that we all know deep down, even though we may not want to admit it – that fruits and vegetables should be the focus of one’s diet, that our bodies were not meant for processed, unnatural foods, and that giving our bodies healthy and nutritious fuel is what makes us healthy people.
