Natural Relief From Mood Swings During Menopause

Nourish Yourself

There is overwhelming evidence that diet plays a big role in balancing hormones and preventing mood swings during menopause. Eating a balanced diet can raise your levels of serotonin and restricting certain trigger foods can stabilize your emotions.

* Complex Carbs – brown rice, whole grains, and legumes to raise serotonin levels in the brain

* Protein Power – include salmon, organic beef, skinless chicken or yogurt and cheese to stabilize blood sugar

* Vital Nutrients – eating whole, unprocessed foods and lots of fruits and veggies will improve mood and curb cravings

* Avoid Triggers – sugar, caffeine and alcohol contribute to emotional instability by interfering with hormonal balance

When you give your body the nourishment it needs, it runs better for you. Make your meals a part of your healing plan, and you’ll be receiving true medicine through food.

Lower Stress

It only makes sense that too much stress can cause a bad mood. Pile on a lifetime of stress, and eventually your moods will crash. Again and again. Taking a little time everyday to release built-up emotions and clear negativity can do wonders to improving your emotional stability.

* Serenity Nowyoga and meditation are excellent tools for relieving stress and promoting positivity

* Let It Out – express uncomfortable emotions by writing them in a private journal, once it’s on paper it has less power over your well-being

* Be Regular – stay consistent with exercise and sleep routines to better deal with stress

* Support Group – spending time with others can do wonders for mood and ability to cope with stress

When you do a few things for yourself to improve your outlook, release stress and establish a sense of connectedness, your emotions will naturally balance. Taking care of yourself in this way is part of the wisdom that menopause brings. Embrace it.

No matter how healthy, upbeat or positive you have appeared in your 30’s and 40’s, you will need to address your own needs sooner or later. After decades of putting yourself last, your emotional body will eventually start to speak up, and if you haven’t taken care of yourself up to this point, menopausal mood swings will definitely get your attention (and everyone else’s in your path). It’s time to slow down, listen to your own needs during menopause and meet them as best as you can.
