Herbs That Stop Bleeding And How To Use Them

However, I have found that applying the cayenne powder directly to the skin can work. The only thing to be cautious of is that a high potency cayenne (past 35,000 BTU or HU) could burn the skin if it was already wounded.

An Amazon Version of Cayenne

The fact is that herbs can stop bleeding. I was mentored by Amazon John Easterling for many years while working for his company, Amazon Herbs in the 1990s. In the Amazon, there are many herbs that have the power to stop bleeding. You’d need those herbs there in the Amazon since there are no hospitals for miles.

One of those hemostatic herbs is sangre de drago. An extract of this herb practically looks like blood. Amazon John often told stories of people who made a serious mistake while making their way through the jungles – when cutting down the thick brush with a machete, the machete slipped and cut their forearm. A huge open wound like that could easily become infected and /or a person could die from loss of blood. However, all that had to be done was to look around for the tree sangre de drago, cut the bark and apply the bloody red extract that comes out. The bleeding would stop immediately.

Since the 1600s and probably the beginning of time, the red sap from the Sangre de drago tree was used. There are historical reports from Peruvians, Mexicans and Ecuadorians that affirm the stopping of bleeding. The sap is applied to the wound and it seals the wound first of all. This sealing occurs because the sap dries and forms an ‘herbal band-aid’. People in these cultures have used “dragon’s blood” for not only wounds, but also hemorrhaging after childbirth and fractures. When ingested, it can help stomach ulcers heal. And the herb can also be used for hemorrhoids.

The famous botanist James Duke says this herb contains medicinal constituents such as pycnogenol, taspine and dimethylcedrasine. Each of these constituents has shown independently to accelerate healing, but the combination of them together in studies accelerated wound healing four times!

Sangre de drago is available in the U.S. now in extract form. It’s a good idea to have some in your medicine cabinet, in your hiking backpack, and in your car for emergencies.
